Two graduate students affiliated with our center have been awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowships. Dalvin D. Méndez-Hernández and Michael Vaughn, both from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, have been awarded the very prestigious fellowship which provides 3 years of support with a $30K annual stipend, a $10.5K cost of education allowance, and a $1K one-time international travel allowance. Additional information on the program can be found at http://www.nsfgrfp.org/
Prof. Wim Vermaas has been awarded a $5.2 million grant for two years to fund work on a form of photosynthetic cyanobacteria modified to over-produce and secrete fatty acids for biofuel feedstocks using just sunlight, water and carbon dioxide as inputs. ASU researchers will work with scientists from North Carolina State University and Diversified Energy on the project.
Reseachers from our center have been awarded $14M to establish an Energy Frontier Research Center at ASU. The Center for Bio-Inspired Solar Fuel Production will work in affiliation with the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. More info
